Gogunda Palace & Wada 1

Gogunda Palace & Wada 1

Location

Udaipur and Aihole (Karnataka)

One of Udaipur’s earliest Palaces, Gogunda Palace was built by Maharana Pratap Singh in the 16th century as part of a war strategy. Pratap Singh was coronated here in 1572. Nestled against the green landscape like a prism of brilliant ochre sunshine, Gogunda Palace reflects the Mewari architectural style. The 20-acre Charbagh garden with a central marble fountain and four-course waterways are surrounded by Champa (frangipani), Neem (mahogany) and pink bougainvillea. Each of our 40 rooms and suites are unique in style and design. Seven years of loving restoration have put back every original detail along with modern amenities. Enjoy the best of old world charm with modern conveniences at Gogunda Palace.   Aihole is known as the, “cradle of temple architecture”, and was neglected for much of the 20th century. After 10 years of painstaking work, Wada1 has been restored to its former glory. The Wada was the residence of a Chalukyan Chieftan dating back to between the 8th and 12th century BC and its architecture is representative of the time. What makes Wada1 even more unique is the fact that most Wada’s of its time have been completely demolished over time to make way for newer construction. This is the last of very few Wadas that remain in existence and one that has been restored and available for guests to experience and very close to the major temples of Aihole & Pattadakal.
